The device uses two optically isolated TRIACs to control two independent heating elements, with feedback from K-type thermocouples. The heating element assembly is plugged into the device with a 5 pin XLR-type connector typically found in the industry. Due to its intended purpose as a lab-grade, industrial device, it is exempted from FCC equipment authorization under 47 CFR Part 18.
After being approached with an initial device concept and bill of materials, I was able to fit the system into an enclosure, develop a user interface, and prepare the device for production.
Shown on the right is the completed production model of the device, consisting of three main parts: the circuit board, injection-molded plastic enclosure, and XLR heating element assemblies. The design documentation and preparation of each of these components was all supervised by me over a period of about 9 months.

I want to take a moment to mention that this device isn’t perfect and several issues have been encountered with it (notably, electrical noise disrupting the heating cycle). Nevertheless, its production showcases some of my exploration in the field of systems engineering.
